Late 19th Century Floral Indigo Dyed Katazome $40

This late 19th century Japanese katazome fabric employs a pattern of flowers, foliage, arabesques and small dots on a deep indigo background. The fabric is in great shape and it has a beautiful texture and a light weight due to the even threads and years of use. The deep indigo color tells us that this fabric was probably emerged in the dye vat as many as ten times to achieve this deep blue hue. There are some places where the fabric has been slightly bleached by the sun. These testify to the long life of this textile. This fabric is strong enough for sewing or boro projects. It would also be beautiful used as a table runner or even framed. There are a couple of small boro patches on this panel, including one corner. This is a beautiful fabric that has been taken care of through the years. 35 x 13.5 inches.
