Late 19th Century Indigo Dyed Katazome with Peony $40

40.00

This late 19th century Japanese katazome fabric employs a pattern of Peony flowers, foliage and arabesques on a deep indigo background. The fabric is in great shape and it has a beautiful texture and weight due to the even threads and years of use. The deep indigo color tells us that this fabric was probably dipped in the dye vat as many as ten times to achieve this deep blue hue. This fabric is strong enough for sewing or boro projects. It would also be beautiful used as a table runner or even framed. There is one seam where a smaller piece of the same fabric was sewn to the panel. This is a beautiful fabric. 39 x 13 inches.
